Sometimes a father knows what is best for his child.

At least Mr. Bennet trusts he does. Seeing the potential of a good match for his beloved Lizzy but knowing her ability to hold a grudge, he puts a plan into action that forces a marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth.

Trapped in a compromise, Elizabeth Bennet has no choice but to accept the proposal of a man she is not entirely sure she likes. On the advice of her sister, she begins to question all she has heard about Mr. Darcy. When she realizes that she has been seriously mislead about his character, she then begins to examine her own heart. What she finds there is unfamiliar. Could these strange feelings be the beginning of love as her aunt suggests? Is it possible that she can find happiness with her father's choice?

Her Father Choice A Pride and Prejudice Novella Choices Book 1 edition by Leenie Brown Romance eBooks

This is definitely a new but old plot for a P&P variation. A compromise ensues between Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, we have seen this before (I do love this theme), but the conspirator(s) of said compromise is not who is expected, nor is the reason for the compromise to be expected.

This story begins just prior to the Netherfield Ball with a conversation between two old friends. What's nice is seeing the progression of understanding and emotions that ODC goes through while reconciling to their fate.

I love the addition of Lady Sophia, another sister of Lord Matlock who is more like Lady Anne Darcy than her stuffy brother and sister (Lord Matlock and Lady Catherine). I like the addition of Lord Rycroft as well, makes for another cousin Mr Darcy can count on.

I always enjoy variations where Mary is a stronger presence and is of more assist to Elizabeth, being a middle child (though only girl) myself I do feel some kinship to Mary. I like how she is portrayed, she is able to keep her morality and beliefs, though they are softened.

This is the first in a series of books (not sure how many), and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!!!! This is appropriate and recommended for all JAFFers.

Her Father Choice A Pride and Prejudice Novella Choices Book 1 edition by Leenie Brown Romance eBooks Reviews

If I could give more than five stars, I would. I loved this sweet, well written variation on Jane Austen's classic. Elizabeth couldn't help but love this Darcy. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't want it to end. Then I wanted more information about Lord Rycroft. Lo and behold, that's the next book in the series. So, I am a happy camper.

If you love P&P variations, what ifs, whatevers, you should love this one. Way to go, Ms. Brown. I look forward to your future writings.
My rating was effected mainly by the fact that at 70% it was done. I knew it wasn't long but as the story unfolded I would glance down to see how much I had left. The story was well written I loved her take on this Darcy and Elizabeth but was disappointed that I couldn't spend more time. Be aware of this I think it will save you some disappointment at least. I think if the book shows how much is left that should be based on the story itself not stories following it. I paid for this book not the others. Anyway, this Darcy is exciting as he has no problem opening his heart to Lizzy. His superiority complex is not a factor in this one and I loved when he stood up to his uncle bout his feelings for Lizzy. Speaking of her she does let some of Miss Bingley's friends know the impertinent Lizzy we all love but there is more than one spot she cries. All and all it was enjoyable read but with more length we could have shared more moments with D&E opening their hearts it seemed like in these moments it was interrupted by tragedy, letters, furious aunts, uncles. Enjoy!
As usual, Darcy's comment at the Meryton Assembly put him on Lizzy's "bad list". Mr. Bennet sees his worth as a gentleman and a good match for his favorite, Lizzy. However, with the current circumstances, how was Lizzy to be convinced of Darcy's real personality and worth as a man (not finances). Thomas Bennet and Sir William Lucas put their plan in motion. Bingo.. It worked. Now all he needed was for Lizzy to take time to know Darcy.. Would she finally realize she was a good match for him or would she remain unmoved in her pride in discerning the true worth of people...how would Darcy deal with this situation that was taken out of his hands...interesting what if. Sweet read for a Sunday afternoon. Loved how Mrs. Bennet stepped up and put Lady Catherine in her place. Very refreshing twist. I like it. Like the part where Mary is seen to be a special young woman by some of Darcy's family (Aunt Sophia.. Oh I like her a lot). Enjoy
This was delightful and such a surprise. What is a father to do? Mr. Bennet knows Mr. Darcy and the Bingley party will be leaving shortly and he knows he must do something to ensure the happiness and security of his two oldest daughters. He and Sir William Lucas create the perfect plan… compromise. I loved how these two older gentlemen strategized and orchestrated their plan of action. They were like two generals moving players across a field of battle. They were so cute and so innocent.

I enjoyed the flow of this novella, that natural progression from point A to point B. That is the most difficult part of most JAFF novellas by new authors as well as veteran authors. Because they are shorter versions of a novel, they have to be condensed and move at double time or quick step, as they say. It is sometimes difficult to move the story along smoothly.

Brown did an excellent job of conveying emotions, that step-by-step journey ODC took as they sorted out their feelings for each other. I liked how she worked through their reservations and addressed all the problems that Elizabeth had with Mr. Darcy. And the struggles Mr. Darcy had with a family socially beneath him. Once the problems of pride and prejudice were nipped in the bud… early, then ODC had less in the way of their HEA.

I loved watching Darcy take the high road and do the honorable thing by offering for Elizabeth. How he stood against his family and especially Lady Catherine. Darcy’s family had their own journey to overcome with their own feelings of prejudice and pride. We saw a new side of Mr. Darcy when he confronted his Uncle Matlock. I don’t think powerful is a strong enough word. He was a force to be reckoned with. Do I hear a collective sigh?

SURPRISES Oh my goodness, there was a doozy of a surprise that will shake the foundation of the Fitzwilliam family and you will never guess who knew it and has sat on it all these years. I was so shocked I could not believe it. Now, do not for a minute think this shocker is implausible. Most families [including my own] have skeletons in their closet and don’t talk about it or choose to selectively forget about them. I am sure we will hear more regarding this shocker later. If not, then let it die with this generation.

I liked this Mary and Kitty; even Lydia was minor in this story. Due to all the weddings, Lydia did not get to go to Brighton [thank goodness]. Since Mary and Kitty are in the next two novellas, I assume Lydia will be the fourth. I am now heading for Choices book 2.
